Central Coast Mariners had their Asian Champions League campaign ended on Tuesday with a 3-2 loss to Pohang Steelers. In a thrilling encounter at Pohang's Steelyard, the home side took the lead through an early penalty from Brazilian striker Denilson but knowing they needed a victory to stay alive, the Mariners turned things around.
Adam Kwasnik managed to equalise then put the visitors ahead within four minutes in the second half to give the A-League some hope but it all came crashing down as Denilson netted twice in the final 20 minutes.
The win puts the Steelers through to the round of 16 whilst the Mariners will be left to rue a missed opportunity.
