The 22-year old England international was impressive in central midfield, scoring a goal as the Gunners returned to the top of the Premier League with a 2-1 win at Aston Villa on Monday, and admitted he felt comfortable back in his old role.
"I think it is. I spoke to the manager a few times about it, and he thinks it as well," he told Sky Sports after spending some time as a wide midfielder and in a defensive midfield role this season.
"In this team we've got great competition, I think as well, and it's important we rotate a lot. We've done that this season.
"Sometimes I have to play wide, sometimes I play in the middle, but as long as the team is doing well and getting three points that's all that matters.
"I'm not really a defensive midfielder, I'd say I was an attacking midfielder, but if you're going to be one of those, you're going to have to create goals and score goals.
"You see the best midfielders in the past doing that, like (Frank) Lampard and (Steven) Gerrard."
