Celtic fullback Andy Hinkel admits friends and family expected him to join Hull City before yesterday's deadline.

The Germany international said: "I was actually surprised to hear I could be going away. It was just before the first game of the season against Aberdeen one of my friends sent me a text asking if I was going to Hull.

"I didn't know what he was talking about as I never heard anything.

"I have enjoyed the first few weeks of working with the new manager and have not been thinking about any other club."
