Celtic's Brown shrugs off double setback

Celtic midfielder Scott Brown insists he hasn't been affected by two big setbacks in the last week.

"What disappointments?" was his response to the question of how he had been affected by the defeat by Georgia in Tbilisi and the whipping from Rangers in the Old Firm match at Ibrox. "Two defeats haven't taken us out of anything. Scotland are still in Euro 2008 and Celtic are still top of the league, that's what counts.

"What went wrong on Saturday doesn't matter now, does it? What went wrong happened and it's over and now we have to look forward to Benfica here in Lisbon. It all comes down to producing your form on the night and doesn't have anything to do with what happened in earlier games.

"We played well against Milan, we defended solidly and we took our chances and won 2-1. At other times, you don't defend as well and you don't take your chances. That's what makes the Champions League so special. It's all top teams involved and anything can happen."

Ahead of their clash with Benfica, Brown declared: "I saw them against Celtic last year and they're a bit like us in that they've lost a few players and brought some in. But they'll be like all the continental sides, they'll be aggressive and quick.

"We saw that in Donetsk when we lost 2-0 to Shakhtar. Losing the goals so early was a bit of a shock. I don't think we expected them to be quite as ferocious as they were in that early part of the game. But their power going forward was quite scary. That's the kind of thing we have to deal with.

"It was a similar story with Spartak in Moscow in the qualifying round. They had two flying machines in the wide positions who were hard to keep up with, but we coped with it and even took the lead. I expect Benfica will be similar, because that's the kind of quality Champions League teams have. They're always fast on the break and pretty dangerous."
