Celtic wrapping up deal for American keeper Dominic Cervi

Celtic are wrapping up the signing of American goalkeeper Dominic Cervi. Ineligible for a work visa, Cervi has received an Italian passport almost 500 days after he applied and can now sign a contract with the Parkhead club.

The 22-year-old is pleased his long wait is finally over and can't wait to start his quest for a place in manager Gordon Strachan's plans next season.

"Once everything is wrapped up here in Italy, I will head back to Glasgow to finalise the deal," said Cervi.

"All this waiting is making me impatient and all I want to do is knock some heads on the pitch. I'm just going to a local field to knock the ball around.'

Cervi is also set to be called into the full American squad for next month's World Cup qualifiers with Costa Rica and Honduras.

"I haven't heard anything, but it's always an honour to be called into the squad,' he said.

"At the same time, I'm anxious to get started with Celtic to try to earn a spot in the team."

Cervi will challenge Artur Boruc and Lukasz Zaluska next season, with current No 2 Mark Brown expected to leave Parkhead in the summer.
