The Scottish Premier League will not alter any of Celtic’s fixtures when the next stage of the Champions League kicks off.
The Hoops will soon learn who they take on in the Round of 16 of Europe’s premier club competition early next year and there have been calls to ease the Glasgow clubs fixture list around those fixtures.
But SPL secretary Ian Blair said it would be too difficult to make changes to the league’s matches to accommodate Celtic.
“Logistically, it just isn’t possible to reschedule games at this time,” said Blair.
“Without any interference from the weather, Celtic could potentially find themselves with a backlog of three games.
“And that doesn’t include the possibility of other Scottish Cup replays, of course.
“The other problem we have is that UEFA don’t allow us to schedule games in the same week as European ties.
“It would benefit Scottish clubs because our coefficient will improve if Celtic can reach the quarter-finals. But we simply can’t have our season ending in September.”
