The Adelaide United striker is being chased by a host of clubs with German side Borussia Monchengladbach seemingly leading the chase for his signature.
The Hoops were understood to be tracking the 19-year-old closely and were looking to bring him to Scotland for a possible training spell.
But the player has damaged his ligament which, whilst not needing surgery, will require him to be sidelined until 2011.
"Obviously I'm a bit frustrated and devastated that I won't be able to play for a while now, but I guess injuries happen in football," Leckie said.
