Celtic boss Gordon Strachan has made a £3 million bid for Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant.
The Mirror says Strachan regards Pennant as a ready-made replacement for Aiden McGeady after his bitter fall-out with the club's star winger, which led to him being banned from first-team training after a dressing-room bust-up.
Pennant turned down offers from Stoke and Blackburn in the summer to stay and fight for his future, but Liverpool want to cash in as he only has six months left on his contract.
Former Arsenal and Birmingham player Pennant can leave on a free transfer in the summer - unless he makes 15 first-team appearances, which will then automatically trigger a 12-month extension that is written into his contract. Liverpool paid Birmingham £6.7m for him.
