Celtic striker Griffiths hoping van Dijk opts against England move

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has implored teammate Virgil van Dijk to remain with the Scottish giants.

The Dutch defender's agent, Henk-Maarten Chin, said on Sunday that top clubs in England were showing considerable interest in his client who joined the Hoops from FC Groningen for £2.6million this past summer.

Upon hearing the news, Griffiths had his fingers crossed that van Dijk would opt against making the move south of the border so that Hoops boss Neil Lennon could build his side around the classy centre-half.

"I'd definitely say he's good enough to play in the top four in the Premier League. He's one of those you just can't put a price on," Griffiths told the Daily Record

"I'm sure there'll be a lot of offers coming in for him in the summer.

"If that happens then it's up to the board at Celtic what it would take to sell him.

"But he's a very good player and I wouldn't want to see him go. We want him to stay and the manager can build the team around him.

"We're going to be in the Champions League again next season, albeit we still have the qualifiers first. So there are big games to come. I hope Virgil takes that into consideration.

"If he wants to stay it will be great for the team and the fans."
