Celtic skipper Brown planning to negate Juventus star Pirlo

Celtic captain Scott Brown suggests he will have to be at his best to keep Andrea Pirlo quite on Tuesday night.

The Hoops host Juventus in the Champions League Round of 16 first leg at Parkhead and Brown is well aware that he will have negate the Italian international if his side is to have any chance of pulling off a surprise result.

"Whenever I have played against Pirlo, it has been hard. Maybe he is getting older and we can catch him," he said.

"We need to stop him from playing. He has fantastic ability on the ball, one of the greats. My first Champions League game was against Pirlo when he was with AC Milan.

"I played against him after that as well, for Scotland against Italy.

"He is a very gifted player, one of the best ever. He ran the Euros for Italy last year.

"He has maybe lost his legs a bit but still has all the ability and vision with the ball at his feet to make those passes.

"We have watched a lot of DVDs about Juventus recently and Pirlo is certainly the one who seems to make them tick.

"He seems to get on the ball a lot and passes long and short. He also has the ability to beat a man, while his free kicks and shooting are really good as well. If we can put a guy on him to stop him from playing it will help us a lot."
