Celtic skipper Brown to be sidelined for ankle assessment

Celtic captain Scott Brown will be put on ice as the club goes about assessing his ongoing ankle injury.

The midfield general had to be replaced with about 15 minutes remaining of the Hoops' ill-fated Old Firm derby with Rangers at Ibrox yesterday in his first game back from a two-match absence because of the problem.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon admitted that Brown had again hurt himself in the 4-2 loss and said he would be sidelined until they can assess the situation properly.

"The ankle has gone again unfortunately," said Lennon.

"He felt fine before the game, he trained the day before the match and looked great for an hour.

"He actually got us playing in the first half and was instrumental in both our goals so it was a blow losing him.

"We don't know how long he is going to be out for now.

"It looks as if he is going to be shut down for a while until we can let it settle and get it right."
