The Evening Times says Celtic want to have their former star with them when they head for Moscow on Monday to play Spartak in the third and final qualifying round first leg.

But Celtic face a desperate race against the clock as the deal to bring Maloney back from Aston Villa would have to be finalised by close of play today.

Uefa would have to be satisfied he had been registered with the SFA and that international clearance had been received before they would accept him in the squad list Celtic must submit.

The deadline for playing in the Group Stages is September 1.
