Celtic's win over Spartak great for club and Scottish football - Desmond

Celtic majority owner Dermot Desmond believes Tuesday night's Champions League victory over Spartak Moscow is a great boost for Scottish football.

Georgios Samaras produced a last-gasp winner to allow the Bhoys a 3-2 win over Spartak in Russia and the result is hugely positive for both the club and the state of the game in Scotland according to Desmond.

"It's great for Scottish football, great for Celtic supporters and hopefully they can kick on and improve from here," said Desmond.

"I think we have a better squad now, we've got a lot of talent there and we will continue to improve the squad.

"Coach Neil Lennon is certainly guiding them to better performances and there's a good bonding between the players.

"We will do our best to reach the knock-out stages and everybody will give 100%.

"We can't really determine the outcome at this point in time but it's a great turning point for the club and I think it's a tipping point for Neil and his team and hopefully they'll go from strength to strength here."

Celtic find themselves sitting second in Group G with four points from two outings, a couple of points in arrears group favourites Barcelona, three clear of Benfica and four ahead of Spartak.

Lennon's men, who sit on top of the Scottish Premier League table, next take on Heart of Midlothian at Parkhead on Sunday.
