The 26-year old had already received a yellow card for over-the-top celebrations after he scored in the 36th minute at Tannadice Park and could have been hit with another for his 63rd minute challenge on Craig Conway.
But he was spared the sending off and was thankful when not forced out of this weekend's Old Firm derby with Rangers.
"I was definitely fortunate to stay on the park," he said.
"I can only thank the referee for not giving me a second yellow.
"I thought I could have won the ball, I didn't go in to hurt him or anything - but I was pretty lucky.
"I definitely feared the worst because you know when it is a bad tackle. It was probably a booking, so I'm pretty fortunate."
Even Hoops boss Neil Lennon thought that Wilson was very lucky.
"Mark could quite easily have been sent off and he was probably fortunate to stay on the pitch," Lennon added.
