Celtic's Ledley urges refs to protect Tottenham's Bale

Joe Ledley has implored the referees to not allow the Scotland team to apply a physical approach to stopping Gareth Bale this weekend.

Celtic midfielder Ledley and his Wales teammates host the Scots in 2014 World Cup qualifying in Cardiff on Friday night and he hopes that Tottenham star Gareth Bale, who holds the key to the Welsh team, is protected from the usual treatment he receives.

"It's down to the referee to sort that out, but obviously he will. There's going to be a lot of tackles flying in and it will be like a derby game," said Ledley who is expecting decent turnout form the visiting Scottish fans.

"Both teams are going to be up for the game and fighting for their lives to get the three points.

"We need to keep cool, to play our own game and to hurt them with our strengths. I know the fans from playing in Scotland and Celtic is the best atmosphere I've ever played in.

"The Scotland fans are going to be behind their team so we need to be up for it."
