Celtic's Kayal backs himself to step into Wanyama's shoes

Beram Kayal believes he is good enough to take the mantle of Celtic's leading central midfielder.

The Israeli could be given more opportunity next season by manager Neil Lennon if star Victor Wanyama happens to leave this summer and he is confident he is the man to fill the potential void.

"I am happy if the gaffer says I could be the man to come in and play all the games. Victor is a great player, and a great friend to me too," he said.

"We play together in the midfield and he has proved himself in the Champions League that he's a great player at the highest level.

"If he goes we will be losing a great player and a great friend and I will work hard to get into the team.

"I just want to come back and show everyone the real Beram Kayal.

"Listen, I'm not saying that the manager doesn't need to sign anyone else. I don't decide whether the club buys players or not because that's the gaffer's job.

"But if you are asking me if I can do that job then yes, I am 100 per cent and I can play all the games and give my best."
