Captain Scott Brown says it is vitally important that the Scotland national team returns to a major tournament as soon as possible.

The Scots missed out on the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, meaning their next chance to compete at the top level will be at Euro2016 in France, and Celtic's Brown feels that has to be the event in which the national team next takes part.

"I think we need to get to the Euros or the World Cup," he said ahead of Friday's friendly with the USA at Hampden.

"It has been a long time since we got there. France, 1998 (World Cup) was the last one and we just have to get back there."
