The race for FC Groningen defender Virgil van Dijk is heating up.

The Daily Mail says the much-wanted 22-year-old has also been mentioned in connection with Premier League sides Everton, Newcastle United and Sunderland, but reports in Holland suggest that Celtic have already made a bid for the £2million-rated Groningen player.

Van Dijk's agent, Martin Henk Chin, revealed there has been a move for his client, saying: "It is true that a bid for Virgil has been made but I can't say anything about the club."
