The Scottish champions were impressive at the San Siro but could not score and in the end conceded twice in the final five minutes to Cristian Zapata and Sulley Muntari.

Lennon was disappointed with the result for his side who now get set to host Barcelona in Glasgow in two weeks following Lionel Messi’s hat-trick in their 4-0 triumph over Ajax.

"Barcelona's a different game, a different animal," he told Sky Sports.

"I felt confident with the team coming into the game tonight and we did very, very well but not well enough for my liking."
