Celtic no. 2 Thompson expects Rangers 'to be looked at'

Celtic assistant coach Alan Thompson believes the Rangers team will be 'looked at' after having three players sent from the pitch in last night's Scottish Cup fifth-round replay at Celtic Park.

The Ibrox club ended the match with eight men after Steven Whittaker and Madjid Bougherra were both shown two yellow cards during regular time before El-Hadji Diouf was booked for a second time when he approached referee Calum Murray after the final whistle.

Thompson feels that the conduct of Walter Smith's 'Gers, particularly Diouf, needs to be looked at and made it clear that he was happy with how the Celtic players behaved.

"Our physio had gone on when Steven Whittaker went off and Diouf shouldered him," Thompson told Sky Sports.

"Neil (Lennon) saw it and it has gone on from there. That instigated everything.

"We picked up three yellow cards out of everything that went on.

"We asked the players to remain disciplined and they did what we asked.

"Any team that gets three red cards in one game - I think that will be looked at.

"I hope it doesn't take too much away from the way we tried to play.

"We knew they would come tonight and make it difficult but we kept trying to play the right way.

"We are over the moon to be through."

The Hoops will next meet Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Caledonian Stadium on March 13 in the quarter-finals of the competition.
