Celtic make offer to Chivas USA keeper Guzan

Liverpool, Aston Villa and Auxerre have all been quoted as having an interest in the player, who would cost around £1 million. Yet Celtic have moved into pole position to sign Guzan, who has returned to the States to consider the Scottish champions' offer, says The Scotsman.

Gordon Strachan has stressed that speculation should not now arise regarding Boruc, who is contracted to Celtic until 2011 but, with a reported £10 million value, has attracted admiring glances from Arsenal and Bayern Munich.

"I can't deal with speculation," said the Celtic manager. "I haven't thought about the situation that way and I didn't realise anyone else was.

"We are looking to buy people to invest for the future rather than spend for just now. Our team has become a lot younger in the last couple of years and if we think spending money represents good value for years to come, we will do it."
