Celtic lose first pre-season game in Australia

A defensive error got Celtic off on the wrong foot as they suffered a 1-0 reverse to Central Coast Mariners in a preseason friendly in Sydney on Saturday.

A poor clearance from substitute Joe Ledley allowed Josh Hearfield to fire home in the 86th minute.

The Hoops almost claimed a point in a late rally when they had a penalty shout turned down after Mariners' substitute, Trent Sainsbury, cleared off the line.

The result was a disappointment for a large proportion of the 25,000 crowd, the majority of whom seemed to be supporting the visitor’s.

Celtic play Perth Glory next Saturday and Melbourne Victory four days later.
