Celtic legend Paul McStay can understand Gary Caldwell's decision to leave Parkhead.
Caldwell has signed with Wigan Athletic after choosing the Premiership club over Middlesbrough.
McStay told The Herald: "There's a lot of money in the game. As I know, it's a very short career and you never know when it's going to end. There are financial gains to be made, and a lot more financial gains from moving away. That's every player and his family's choice. It's all about personal choice.
"Gary has been a great servant to the club. He's put his heart and soul into Celtic Football Club. He's taken a decision to move down south and I'm sure he'll do well there. He's got plenty of experience and he's played at the top level for a few years now. When someone moves on there's always someone ready to come in and fill his place. I think they've made a good signing in Jos Hooiveld from Stockholm."
