Celtic lean on free-scoring McDonald for Benfica success

The Australian ace, who cost just £700,000 for Motherwell in the summer, took his tally for the season to 13 with a double in the 2-1 win over Kilmarnock.

And Celtic teammate John Kennedy says: "We can be confident going into the Benfica match after beating Killie.

"Scott's been a great buy for us. From day one he's proved himself with the goals he's scored. His all-round game is good, though, not just his goals. For a small guy he really holds the ball in well. That's a great asset.

"He can score from anywhere. He's a moan on the pitch and in training as well, but we're delighted to have him here."

Aiden McGeady also said: "Every game Scott plays he seems to score. He has a fantastic record.

"We all knew when he came he could score, but I don't think any of us realised just how many. His overall play, too, is fantastic. He holds the ball up really well for a smallish guy."
