Celtic failed with late move for Newcastle's Best

Celtic reportedly had a late crack at signing Newcastle United striker Leon Best on yesterday's transfer deadline day.

With the Magpies bringing in Papiss Demba Cisse earlier in the winter window, the Hoops saw it as a good chance to try and lure the Irishman to Parkhead on a loan deal.

But Newcastle turned down the advances with manager Alan Pardew keen to keep his current squad together and Best deciding to remain in England's north east to be with his 10-week old son.
