Celtic to face Scotland in Kennedy benefit match

Former Celtic defender John Kennedy is set for a bumper testimonial.

The Scottish Football Association and Celtic are in talks to hold an end-of-season benefit match for Kennedy.

The former Celtic centre-half never fully recovered from a serious knee injury suffered on his Scotland debut in 2004, and finally had to admit defeat and announce the end of his playing career last November, aged only 26.

Kennedy himself, the SFA and Celtic have all held tentative discussions about a fundraising game. Although there are other possibilities, including a game against Martin O’Neill’s Aston Villa, an option being discussed is a match between Scotland and a Celtic XI which would be held at Parkhead on Sunday, May 16, the day after the Active Nation Scottish Cup final.
