Celtic defender Thompson enjoyed Man Utd trials

Celtic defender Josh Thompson has revealed how he had trials with Manchester United.

Thompson moved to Celtic last summer from Stockport County.

He told the Sunday Mail: "It was amazing at United. The trial was just as they were getting set to play in the Champions League Final.

"I assumed I would be training with the reserves but when I jogged out it was Rooney, Ronaldo, Edwin Van der Sar and all the other big names.

"We played a five-a-sides game and I was up against Nani and Park Ji Sung. It was the end of the season so they were taking it a bit easy but I wasn't.

"At the end of the week Sir Alex Ferguson told me I had done well and if I kept working hard, I would eventually get what I deserved.

"I didn't get a contract offer but it was a great grounding for coming up to Scotland and playing in the SPL."
