Celtic could rest Ambrose, Izaguirre, Wanyama later in campaign

Celtic manager Neil Lennon is considering the notion of resting star players later in the season.

With the Scottish Premier League title basically wrapped up, the Hoops are already looking ahead to a potential Scottish Cup final in May before getting things right in the offseason for another crack at the Champions League.

Lennon says that with international matches and the like also set to take toll on his key players, it may be an idea to give them some time away from the playing arena.

"The thing is we could be in a Scottish Cup Final at the end of May. We have to balance it very carefully," he said.

"If there is a chance with three or four league games left then we may give them a week here and there.

"Given all the international matches, time off is very limited and we have to be very mindful of that.

"We will be back around June 17 and that overlaps with internationals.

"Efe Ambrose, Emilio Izaguirre and Victor Wanyama could all be away and the Scots boys are also playing in June.

"It might be strange having a break while the season is ongoing but it might be the only opportunity they get."
