Scottish giants Celtic have confirmed that former Chicago Fire midfielder Freddie Ljungberg is close to signing with them. The 33-year old Swede is currently a free agent after the leaving the Fire following the 2010 MLS season and is on the verge of joining the Hoops suggests manager Neil Lennon.
"It was his agent who contacted us," said Lennon. "He has played 50 games over the past 18 months in America, so he is fit. He has got great experience.
"If he likes the look of us and we like the look of him, we'll look to get a deal done."
The former Arsenal and West Ham United star joined the Fire in July from Seattle Sounders where he spent the 2009 season. He made over 50 MLS appearances over two seasons in the league.
