Celtic chief Lawwell: We had Man City deal for Bellamy

Celtic chief Peter Lawwell has revealed they had a deal with Manchester City for Craig Bellamy.

Bellamy completed his surprise move to Cardiff City yesterday.

Lawwell revealed: "With Bellamy, we had a deal with Manchester City and, in the end, it was down to the player. It seems he has decided to go home, although nothing has been announced yet. That is disappointing.

"We have still brought in eight players. But the EPL has a huge appeal and, with others, there have been domestic reasons.

"You see that with Bellamy. James wanted to be nearer to his family, Campbell's wife is from Newcastle and they have a house there. Bullard? Well, I'm still a bit puzzled about that one."
