Celtic chief backs Lennon, says 'we're united'

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell has told manager Neil Lennon that the entire club is behind him after his wellbeing was again put t the test on Wednesday night.

The Hoops boss has endured a very difficult season from an individual viewpoint, receiving death threats, having parcel bombs designed to maim intercepted by police and requiring 24-hour surveillance.

At Heart of Midlothian's Tynecastle Stadium this week, the Irishman was attacked by a crazy fan who stormed the pitch during Celtic's 3-0 win, adding to the bizarre set of circumstances he has had to deal with this term.

But Lennon will be happy to know that the entire Celtic community are united behind him as he prepares his side for this weekend's vital last game of the season which could yield them the Scottish title.

"Neil knows he's not alone," Lawwell said.

"He knows he's got the backing and that gives him the strength to carry on.

"I don't think the club has ever been more united behind Neil.

"He is a remarkable man and his strength of character is incredible.

"He is proud to be Celtic manager and I think he gets his energy and his strength through his job.

"I very much hope that events don't lead him to thinking otherwise.

"He has a real strength of character through his love of the job."

Lawwell added that it must be hard for Hoops fans to witness such behavior towards the club's gaffer and insists that Lennon is not the type of man to deserve such treatment.

"Neil is demonized," he added.

"This is a guy who played the vast majority of his playing career down south and had no problems.

"Now he's come to Scotland and he is demonised in many quarters.

"He is an intelligent guy, a very passionate guy, a winner who is committed.

"You see that when he's in the dugout, but he's no demon.

"This tells you more about the people who react in that manner than it does about Neil Lennon."
