Celtic chairman Quinn delighted with Moscow showing

Celtic chairman Brian Quinn was delighted with their 1-1 draw at Spartak Moscow this week as he looks forward to another bumper Champions League pay-day.

"It is a wonderful result and we are ever so pleased," he said. "It was tough, but we knew it would be. We expected that. They are a good side and have some quality players, skilful players.

"We take it one step at a time - I do not wish to sound curmudgeonly or miserable here - but we are more than halfway there with that away goal.

"The players are serious about converting the result into one that takes us into the group stages," he said excitedly. "I think the second leg will be a different proposition for Spartak Moscow. They play in a ground where the fans are a long way back and separated from the pitch by a running track in between. It is an Olympic stadium, remember.

"It will be a new experience for them to play in front of 60,000 Celtic fans shouting at them and on a grass pitch, so I think the odds have turned in our favour.

"They came at us very quickly and I think the pitch was a handicap for our players. They didn't have the same level of control when it bounced, but they kept their shape and came away with the deserved result. We could even have won the game."
