A number of sources in Spain and Germany suggest that Celtic and Sevilla have agreed a £2.1million deal for the German international.

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan is known to be searching for cover for Lee Naylor who is currently missing through injury and has been forced to play centre back Darren O'Dea and midfielder Paul Hartley in the left-back position in recent weeks.

Although Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg have held discussions with Hinkel, it now appears likely that Celtic will get their man during the January transfer window.
