Celtic bridge gap at top of SPL table

Celtic yesterday again cut the deficit to one point at the summit of the Scottish Premier League table.

The Hoops were put under further pressure when Old Firm derby rivals Rangers hammered Heart of Midlothian 4-0 at Ibrox on Saturday but managed to come up with the required victory which saw them mount another title challenge with just two league games remaining.

Captain Scott Brown put his side ahead in stoppage time of the first half with a header from close range after a fairly evening 45 minutes before Kris Commons essentially wrapped up proceedings with just over 20 minutes left when he produced a stunning 25-yard drive to make it 2-0.

The SPL title looks like it is going down to the wire this season and we should know more after Rangers host fourth-placed Dundee United on Tuesday ahead of Celtic's trip to Edinburgh to meet Hearts on Wednesday.
