Informed of the nature of the T-shirt, Strachan parried: "He (the Pope) is not a bad lad, is he? If it had been 'God bless Myra Hindley' then I might have had a problem."
For Strachan, the victory itself was of greater import, despite his refusal to entertain any cod psychology over the likely impact on the title race.
"It just makes us feel better about ourselves," he said. "How anyone else reacts to it, I cannot tell you that. We are feeling decent about ourselves; it's a dressing room that is satisfied. That's about as good as you get here.
"The second time we went into the lead against Rangers we were far more positive - the first time, we had been more negative.
"We had to claw our way back with some good football, some determined stuff - and then when it went to 3-2 we thought: 'They are enjoying this now'.
"Which is good because sometimes in an Old Firm game when you get the lead, it becomes hard work. They realised what they did wrong in the first half and they made up for it in the second half. The team played the way we wanted to. It was disappointing losing from set-plays twice, but the delivery was excellent and the bravery from Rangers was good.
"But I enjoyed the game. I enjoyed my team's performance, I enjoyed individual performances; some better than others. No one can have any regrets, I don't think."
