Strachan already has a four-match ban from the technical area pending from last season. He appealed against that decision and his case will be heard at Hampden on Wednesday. If the suspension is upheld, and Strachan is also subsequently found guilty as charged by Charlie Richmond yesterday, he will incur a further six-match ban for his latest dismissal.
"That's the world we live in, I'm afraid," said Celtic coach Tommy Burns. "Some people turn up and think they can give the most horrible abuse to people a few feet away from them. We are not talking about neds here, we are talking about well dressed middle-aged men. They do it in front of women and children, shouting vile personal abuse.
"Then, when someone turns round and responds, they want to report them to the police. They cry boo-hoo and want the person they were abusing sent to jail. Well shame on them.
"There was a wee fellow with a steward's badge on who came rushing down. It defies belief, I thought they were there to look after the crowd. The steward was trying to bring the police into it and accused Garry Pendrey of sticking his fingers up provocatively. Gordon knew that was a downright lie and was just defending the guys on his bench. It will be interesting to see the referee's report to find out why Gordon was sent to the stand."
