Celtic boss Rodgers saddened by Boyata strop

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has been left saddened about the situation surrounding Dedryck Boyata.

The Belgian defender's agent said the Bhoys had failed to follow through with their promise of selling him this summer after they knocked back a £9m bid from Fulham. Boyata has now ruled himself out of Celtic's Champions League clash with AEK due to a back complaint. And speaking at the pre-match press conference, Rodgers refused to be drawn on whether the stopper had played his last game for the club.

Rodgers said: "More sad than a distraction. He is a player that we would have loved to have here with us.

"He is a player that has been with us over the last couple of seasons and at this time it would have been great to have him here.

"But he is not and we need to put the faith in squad that want to be here and want to play for the result. And that is my focus, on the players we have."
