Celtic boss Rodgers eyeing Everton midfielder James McCarthy

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is eyeing Everton midfielder James McCarthy.

The Daily Mail says Rodgers will step up efforts to take unsettled Everton midfielder McCarthy on loan after securing a Champions League windfall.

The Celtic manager has drawn up a list of potential signing targets for the group stage.

Targeting a mobile central midfielder, Rodgers has initiated moves to challenge Newcastle, Sunderland, Watford, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth for the services of Republic of Ireland international McCarthy.

A former target before leaving Hamilton for Wigan in 2009, the 25-year-old has slipped out of favour under new Goodison manager Ronald Koeman.
