Celtic manager Neil Lennon will send a private letter to referee Euan Norris apologising for his actions after the recent Scottish Cup semi-final.

Lennon confronted Norris on the pitch and exchanged words after his side had been dumped from the competition by Heart of Midlothian who were awarded a late, dubious penalty for handball.

The Celtic boss has been summoned to the Scottish Football Association headquarters to explain his actions and after already receiving a touchline ban for criticising another referee, Willie Collum, Lennon knows this time he was in the wrong and plans to send an apology to Norris while accepting his fate from the association.

"It was an instinctive reaction action born out of frustration more than anything else," admitted Lennon. "I know I have to conduct myself better than that.

"I will be sending correspondence to the referee as an apology as well.

"It's one actionable thing that I've done that I shouldn't have done.

"I will go to the tribunal and hopefully get a fair hearing as I did the last time and take what's coming."
