Celtic boss lauds 'marvellous' former Sunderland keeper

Celtic manager Ronny Deila has heaped praise on goalkeeper Craig Gordon following his performance in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The former Heart of Midlothian and Sunderland gloveman, who joined the Hoops as a free agent this summer, made a string of fine saves as the Hoops drew 2-2 with Red Bull Salzburg in their Group D opener in Austria.

Gordon's fine outing allowed Celtic to gain a point from their first group stage fixture and prompted the following words of praise from his new boss.

"Craig Gordon was marvellous. He has been good all season but he is also progressing and getting better. He's a top professional, a fantastic man and I am so glad to have him," said Deila.

"I only saw him on TV when he played for Sunderland but our goalkeeping coach Stevie Woods said he's ready and fit. He's fantastic and we knew that but Woodsy has also trained him well.

"He is a fantastic singing for us. We now have a great goalie but a good coach too."
