Celtic appoint director of international development

Jason Hughes, who was deputy general secretary of the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football, will take up his new role in September.

Hughes, a London native, also has served on FIFA committees in the past - and Celtic believes his arrival can strengthen the club's position in the sport's global marketplace.

"In recent years, Celtic have enjoyed considerable commercial success internationally through a range of activities, and the club has enjoyed greatly increased presence and profile on a world stage," Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell said. "Celtic has become one of the best supported football clubs globally, with millions of supporters following the club.

"While we have enjoyed considerable overseas commercial development, through this key appointment we now look forward to taking this to a new level. We will aim to take advantage of the huge potential which exists for the club and will work towards making Celtic one of football's biggest global brands."
