Celtic ace Commons rules out Scotland return

Celtic's Kris Commons has ruled out the possibility of returning to the Scotland national team fold.

The 30-year old forward has not represented his country since February 2013 and despite retiring from the international scene in May last year, there were suggestions that he was pondering a recall.

Commons has been in fine form for the Hoops this season, scoring 26 goals in all competitions, but he would rather remain in Scotland in order to always be near his family after his son was rushed to hospital last year while he was on international duty in Serbia.

"No. I felt when I went away with Scotland I was coming back with niggles and problems which had an effect on my playing ability for Celtic," Commons told the Daily Record when asked if he could be persuaded to play for the Scots again.

"I don't think there is any more desire to keep doing something like that compared to something I did want to do - which was spending time with my family.

"That hit me when my boy was taken into hospital. I was a million miles away. I'd had to fly to another country with Scotland and was not involved, not playing. I just felt this was not for me. Family is the most important thing for me."

England-born Commons has played 12 times for Scotland, scoring two goals, but these comments are the clearest indication yet that his time in international football is no more.
