West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce has revealed they had a secret influence in convincing Liverpool striker Andy Carroll to make the move.

Allardyce on Sunday revealed that Kevin Nolan was not the only friend who helped persuade Carroll to join West Ham, naming on BBC Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek the club's player-liaison officer Tim De'Ath, who is also the England team chef.

De'Ath was a chef in the United Sates where he set up his own company, Hollywood Catering Services. He catered for stars such as Liam Neeson, Samuel L Jackson and Wesley Snipes before joining West Ham in 2001.
