Cech: Winning Europa League can launch new Chelsea era

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech feels winning the Europa League can kickoff a new era at the club.

The club are trying to make a switch from the old guard to the new and it won't be long, even if they succeed in getting new deals, before the likes of John Terry and Frank Lampard are a thing of the past.

Cech said: "The way to show the club are moving in the right direction is to win trophies and finish in the top three or four places in the Premier League every year and qualify for the Champions League.

"If you change the team like we have this season then it's good to see that we can already challenge for honours. If we win this European trophy it will be a success and a step forward for next season because we have been in transition this year.

"This cup and these games can give a lot of confidence and experience to the players who have just joined. We are in a better position in the League than last year [third compared to sixth] and we can say that we're going forward in this transition year.

"This is a good sign because we should begin next season with obviously a new manager and start from there, with a lot more experience than we started with this season."
