Catania have confirmed plans to sell defender Matias Silvestre.

The Argentine is being linked with Villarreal and Liverpool.

"Silvestre is the best defender in Serie A behind Thiago Silva of Milan," Catania director Pietro Lo Monaco said.

"We are discussing him with a number of different clubs, but one in particular. If I were interested in him then I wouldn't let him escape."
