Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has lowered Luke Shaw's transfer value by criticising him publicly, according to ex-Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino.
Mourinho was damning of Shaw's performance in his post-match conference following Saturday's FA Cup quarter-final win over Brighton.
It was the latest in a long line of public criticism of Shaw from Mourinho, which dates back to April last year when the Portuguese questioned the left-back's attitude.
It seems likely Shaw will leave the club, but Cascarino believes Mourinho is ruining United's chances at the negotiating table with his latest comments.
"He was again critical of Luke Shaw and the left back will almost certainly leave in the summer. But who will buy him?" he wrote in The Times.
"United paid nearly £30 million for him but they won't get anything near that when they sell him.
"Mourinho's comments don't just destroy Shaw's confidence, they also mean any interested club will want a cheap dealno one wants to sign someone so publicly labelled as a failure by another manager.
"Modern football clubs are big business and modern managers should act accordingly.
"They can criticise without doing damage to the club's future transfer dealings. Mourinho's approach is unacceptable at a club like United."
