Casalinuovo thanks Dundee Utd fans for befriending his father

Damian Casalinuovo has told how a group of kind-hearted Dundee United supporters befriended his father during the Clydesdale Bank Premier League win at Aberdeen. The Argentinian striker's dad, Jose Luis, had flown over from Buenos Aires to watch his son in action at Pittodrie on Saturday and had travelled north by train on his own.

Casalinuovo snr, who does not speak any English, was spotted by fans celebrating wildly when his son scored the opening goal and this led to him being invited to travel back to Dundee on a supporters' coach.

The Harlequins United supporters' club then threw an impromptu party in a local bar - before bestowing honorary membership on the South American.

Casalinuovo junior thanked the fans involved.

He said: "They went to a bar in Dundee and had a party.

"I had to go and pick him up when we got back from the game. He wasn't drunk but plenty of the supporters were.

"He picked up some great memories and he swapped phone numbers and e-mail with a lot of the fans.

"They said he could be a member of their supporters' club every time he comes over!

"He will be back at Christmas for a few weeks so he's looking forward to that already. It made me feel very good that the fans did that for my father and I would like to thank them for it."
