Carver pleased with Toronto FC draft picks

Toronto FC coach John Carver has indicated that for the 2009 season he wants more competition for places. Speaking on the team's website, Carver explained the thinking behind drafting Stefan Frei, Mike Grella and Kyle Hall.

"We've taken our three first round picks and I'm delighted with them," said Carver. "We sat down beforehand and said if we can get these three guys it will be a great draft. It was a good day for TFC. We've now got a situation where players are going to be put under pressure and that wasn't the case a year ago. You need the competition, it's healthy."
