John Carver has been named assistant manager at Newcastle United.

Carver, who last left Newcastle to take charge of Toronto FC in MLS, has signed a deal to the end of the season.

The Geordie fulfilled the same role when the late Sir Bobby Robson was in charge of the Magpies.

Toon boss Alan Pardew told the club's official website: "I'm delighted to be bringing John on board. He has an excellent track record as a coach and of course knows this club very well."
