Carver insists Newcastle board ready to strengthen this summer

Newcastle United only have 13 fit senior outfield players for the upcoming league fixture against Arsenal and head coach John Carver has confirmed that the board is ready to spend in the transfer window. The Magpies currently sit comfortably in 11th spot in the Premier League but have been hit hard by injuries of late.

Carver mentioned that United's managing director Lee Charnley and owner Mike Ashley have been made aware of the lack of depth in the squad and are planning to address the situation in the summer.

"Yes, the squad needs to be stronger, and they have acknowledged that to me," said Carver.

"Lee and the board have acknowledged that to me, and that's why I am saying to you now they are going to invest, because they know they have to.

"I am telling you now, because I have been part of it in the last few weeks. There are things in place.

"That's from the top, and the fact that I am sitting here talking about this acknowledgement tells me that they have realised they've got to do something about it."

Carver was appointed as the Newcastle manager on a temporary basis after Alan Pardew vacated the job for Crystal Palace and it remains to be seen whether he will continue in his role beyond the summer.
